Butyrate is a short-chain fatty acid produced by the fermentation of bacteria present in our intestinal microbiota in the colon. It is a postbiotic.
Butyrate is absorbed and used in the colon, and is the main source of energy for the cells in the intestinal wall.
In the event of intestinal dysbiosis or a low-fiber diet, the bacteria capable of producing butyrate diminish. The cells in the intestinal wall receive less energy, which can have multiple impacts on the intestinal tract.
Lactiplus Butyrate LP is a Foodstuff for Special Medical Purposes providing 750 mg sodium butyrate per sachet in microgranule form. This patented microencapsulation technology enables butyrate to be released over a prolonged period of time throughout the small intestine and colon, where it is needed.
