Seawater is defined by its salinity, i.e. its dissolved salt content. Salinity can vary according to latitude, but its distinctive feature is its constant composition. On average, seawater contains 33g of salts per liter.
French biologist René Quinton passionately studied the properties of seawater, and the similarities between marine plasma (seawater) and blood plasma. Oligocean ampoules were designed following his method.
Isotonic marine plasma is made from seawater diluted with purified water. Isotonic marine plasma is obtained by :
- micro-filtration down to 0.2 microns,
- without high-temperature treatment (>100°C),
- without irradiation, in accordance with René Quinton's principles.
