Nigari is a natural, unpurified magnesium chloride crystal of marine origin. The raw material, magnesium chloride crystals, come from the Qinghai province in China, in an unspoilt environment at 3700-4500 m altitude.
Prior to the uplift of the land, this region was home to an ocean, from which mineral-laden brackish water remains today. These are dehydrated in salt lakes to produce naturally concentrated magnesium chloride crystals, without chemical treatment or additives. The product is then processed in Japan: dissolving, cleaning and crystallizing until the famous crystals are obtained.
Magnesium chloride is the main component of this product, which contains very little sodium chloride. Nigari is subjected to quality tests. Among these tests, the heavy metal content is checked by our supplier. In addition, following the Fukushima disaster in Japan, we have decided to carry out radioactivity tests on each batch we receive.
