Also known as "Indian plantain" or "psyllium blond", this plant owes its effectiveness to the envelope surrounding its seeds: on contact with water, this envelope swells, increasing stool volume and facilitating evacuation. Native to India and Pakistan,Ispaghul (Plantago ovata Forssk.) is a 20-40 cm-high plant that thrives in relatively poor soil and tolerates both cold and heat. It is the seed coat that is used in phytotherapy.
