5.1. Pharmacodynamic properties
Phloroglucinol and trimethylphloroglucinol are smooth muscle fiber regulators which ensure the relaxation of spasmodic fibers while respecting the physiological tone and amplitude of contractions of normal fibers. The rapid and lasting analgesic effect of spastic processes in the urogenital sphere is linked to the breaking of the colic-spasm chain, and not to a central analgesic effect capable of masking symptoms.

Phloroglucinol is excreted in the urine as parent, sulfo and glucuronide conjugates and as hydroxylated metabolites.
