psyllium blond ispaghul Plantago ovataPsyllium blond, or ispaghul (Plantago ovata), is an annual herbaceous plant 10 to 15 centimetres high, in the Plantaginaceae family. The plant originated in Iran and India, but is now found in temperate regions of Europe and Western Asia. Psyllium fruits are capsules containing small, oval, pink-gray seeds. These seeds are enveloped by a tegument, made up mainly of soluble fibers such as mucilage (20 to 30%). The seed itself contains insoluble fibers, lipids and proteins1.

The mucilage contained in the seed coat of blond psyllium has the particularity of being able to absorb large quantities of water (up to 10 times its volume in water).

They swell in the intestine, forming a gel that increases stool volume and stimulates intestinal peristalsis, facilitating natural stool evacuation. The action of mucilage is therefore mechanical and non-irritating for the intestine. Blond psyllium therefore has numerous properties for digestive disorders such as constipation or irregular transit.

Its violet-pink leaves and flowers have been used in herbal medicine since antiquity. Writers Pliny and Cicero describe its use in ancient Rome, and it was later used in the Middle Ages (St Hildegarde, 12th century) and in Arabic medicine (Ibn al-Baytar, 13th century) for its cough-relieving, anti-inflammatory and digestive properties1.

Today, mallow is traditionally used orally to soothe the throat and ease breathing. Mallow naturally improves digestive comfort and regularizes transit. It is also used topically as a softener, to soothe cracked skin and insect bites.

Mallow leaves and flowers contain mucilage (5-12%), flavonoids and anthocyanosides. Polyphenols seem to be partly responsible for mallow's properties, but its action on the digestive and respiratory spheres seems to be due more to the soothing properties of the mucilages2 present in the plant.

Highly appreciated in the Mediterranean basin, where it originated, this flowering vegetable has been used for centuries in cooking for its taste and nutritional benefits, but it is also used for its many beneficial properties for the body. In Arabic medicine, artichokes were used as diuretics and carminatives (to help eliminate gas and flatulence).

Since the beginning of the 20th century, it has been used for its beneficial effects on the liver, thanks to its cholagogues (facilitates the evacuation of bile), choleretics (promotes the production of bile by the liver) and diuretics1. Artichoke's choleretic properties are mainly due to its content of cynarin and other phenolic acids (caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid)3. Milk thistle thrives in dry, sunny locations, often on acidic, dry, chalky soils. This hardy plant prefers warm, temperate climates and only grows above 700 meters altitude.

Milk thistle is a plant rich in active compounds4. Its hepatoprotective properties are due to the presence of flavonolignans, known as silymarin5,6, a substance rich in flavonoids (silybin, silydianin and silychristin).

The fruit also contains lipids, proteins, sugars and flavonoids. Milk thistle is used in traditional medicine not only for its beneficial properties on digestion, but also as a tonic and diuretic. Silymarin (milk thistle's main active compound) is known for its hepatoprotective properties.

How to use Dragées Végétales REX?

3 capsules per day.

Take 3 capsules with a large glass of water after the evening meal. Do not exceed 3 capsules per day. The dietary supplement must be taken for a short period (10 days maximum).
