Lansinoh Laboratories' HPA lanolin is the only lanolin treated by a physical process that does not denature the lanolin and removes pollutants at a particularly high level. When particularly pure, it protects the skin against dehydration of the upper layers of the epidermis, and does not require cleansing before feeding. When it is less pure, it can contribute to drying out the upper layers of the epidermis, and needs to be cleaned before feeding to prevent baby from consuming the residues of pesticides, detergents and preservatives needed to stabilize it.

Apply a pinhead's worth of Lasinoh to your nipples after a shower once a day during the last trimester of pregnancy, then after each feed until the learning period for latching on is over. Put very little Lansinoh on your nipples, so that baby doesn't slip off when trying to latch on.
Your nipples shouldn't be sensitive after the first few days. If they are, don't try to convince yourself that you're soft or that this is the price you have to pay for breastfeeding, because it's not!
Do these two basic checks:
- does your baby make a clicking or popping noise during feeding?
- does your nipple come out of your baby's mouth flattened at the end of the feed?
If the answer to either of these questions is yes, contact your IBCLC-certified lactation consultant, your La Leche League coordinator or the midwife breastfeeding specialist in your area.
If the answer is no, you're in pain or you have another concern, turn to a breastfeeding specialist only, as you need to move quickly to find relief and a solution to your problem.
