Properties

Sebum, essential to the skin's balance, is a lipid that ensures its suppleness and hydration. A deficit of sebum leads to dry skin, while an excess makes it oily and favors the formation of imperfections. The balance of sebum production is largely controlled by hormones, notably testosterone.

Keratin is one of the dermis' essential proteins. Containing a high proportion of sulfur-containing amino acids, it provides mechanical protection for the dermis, but excess keratin clogs skin pores and promotes sebum accumulation, which can lead to the formation of imperfections such as blackheads.

Zinc helps maintain healthy skin through a number of complementary actions:

normal protein synthesis, particularly of keratin
normal Testosterone levels to prevent excess sebum production
normal metabolism of fatty acids, excess of which promotes sebum production
