Berberine is a member of the alkaloids family, and is present in several plants such as Berberis vulgaris (barberry). Several pharmacological properties are associated with this plant compound, including regulation of glucose and cholesterol levels.
Specific References
Use with caution in people with poor liver function or taking antidiabetics. Hypoglycemia may occur in association with antidiabetics. Good blood sugar control is important.
