Vitamin B9 increases maternal folate levels. Sufficient intake before and during pregnancy helps the fetus to develop properly, particularly with regard to the development of the neural tube. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 400 μg or more of folic acid, at least one month before conception and up to three months after conception.
This is a dietary supplement and should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet.
